TimeLapse
followed up on the success of the Bodacious 80's Challenge cel phone
trivia game with this one. For this round I had four months to work, but
that time included designing the whole game UI graphics, the 60 Bonus
images and various ads. As an added feature, TimeLapse added a set of
downloadable Wallpapers, for which I got a bit of extra time and more
leeway on the subject matter.
The
image above is the Splash image, used in all advertising for the game
and as the initialization screen. It is a montage from some of the
"Bonus" images made for the game. The color set chosen was vivid and
lively.
I designed the logo to echo the logos of a couple of the most popular 90s shows: "Friends" and "90210".

Having
established the bright color approach to the Splash Image, when it came
time to create the game look itself the color scheme was adapted to
make the game lively and friendly. I came up with a set of color
schemes for the four different game categories (plus Bonus and Basic
screens) and small logos to represent each, as shown below. Font design
proved tricky, with the active font colors having to be legible against
all the bright color backgrounds. A little aliasing and black borders
kept the fonts looking sharp. The background colors were tiled
single-pixel-wide strips, with small tiling overlay graphics (such as
the film strip), with all game play elements floating above. Game
Screens shown actual size. Sample questions are leftovers from the 80s
game.

Once
the artwork for the game was complete, TimeLapse decided to include
some extra images which users could acquire to use as wallpapers on
their phones. To see more images from this set go to my "Illustration"
