This
image depicts a U.S. Air Force Republic F-4E Phantom II downing a North
Vietnamese MiG-21. Piloted by Capt. Dick Coe and RIO Lt. Ken Webb, this
34th TFS - 388 TFW Phantom shot down a MiG over North Vietnam on 5
October 1972. Using one of the then unreliable Sparrow missiles to
force the MiG into a closer engagement, Dick Coe's shot managed to hit
the MiG while the Phantom pulled heavy Gs to avoid another brace of
MiGs. They made it home, but were unsure of the kill until it was
confirmed the following day.
